Hi! Thank you for taking a moment to stop by, I’m so glad you did.
How My Journey Started
Let me share a little about myself. My name is Shonna Hirney, a stay-at-home Mompreneur, and I own and operate Heart & Soul Virtual Assistance, a virtual assistant business in Alberta, Canada. And I love what I do!
After working as an employee in the work world for many years, I knew at some point I wanted to have my own business, although I wasn’t sure when or what that would be. The ideas and planning didn’t begin to take place until years later, after my husband and I started our family, which was around 2010. By then, it felt like the right time to start pursuing a business.
Stocking inventory and having parties weren’t right for me, so I kept searching out the possibilities. After countless hours of researching online and through a local connection, I realized my interest was in having an online business and supporting other entrepreneurs. More specifically, I became intrigued with web design, as I had a strong desire to learn how to build and create websites for entrepreneurs.
Going “Back to School”
It’s not always easy to go “back to school”, when you’re past that ideal time in your life. But I also believe you’re never too old to learn something new and further your education. I was willing and prepared, and with my husband’s support, I decided I was ready for this new journey.
The first plan was to take an online web design course and become certified. I worked hard and completed the course with highest honors, prior to the end of the course completion date. I was excited and felt very accomplished! But I didn’t stop there, after discovering that it would be to my advantage to enroll in the advanced web design course, to acquire the extra skills and be on top of my game. So I continued on with my studies, taking the advanced web design course. Everything went well and I made it to the last module.
This is where things slowed down a bit. Because I had put much time into my studies and having to manage being a stay-at-home Mom, I knew it was time to start looking for clients and begin working. Within a short time, I was fortunate to land my first client and away I was! And although I was a bit nervous and critical of myself, I knew this was what I was meant to do. Starting a new career was a little daunting and a bit overwhelming, but I was going to persevere through the challenges, have fun and give it my all! And, well, the rest is history.
In January 2012, I decided to expand my skill-set and learn Virtual Assistance, so that I could offer more services to clients and be the best VA I could be. A few months later, I officially named my business, Heart & Soul Virtual Assistance. I found it a challenge to come up with a business name, one that portrayed a little of who I am and my passion for being a virtual assistant. So when the name “Heart & Soul” came to mind, I knew it was the right fit.
It is my passion to support entrepreneurs with services including: web design and management, admin tasks, event management (webinars, summits, etc), email marketing campaigns, social media management, research and more. I help entrepreneurs in different industries, from artists to web designers, coaches to Virtual Assistant (VA) businesses, along with any online business looking for support.
To continue to better support my clients in their business success and to grow my business, I actively take opportunities to learn new technologies, small business products and platforms.
Establishing great relationships with entrepreneurs is very rewarding and important to me, and I feel privileged being part of their continued business success.
